Words of wisdom.

Some Monday words of wisdom from the Dalai Lama. It’s always important to me to start the week on a positive note, new intentions for this week and new aims. This is an excerpt from a book I’m reading which i think is the perfect mindset to go on with. Although i do not personally follow any religion I am very interested in Buddhism and many Buddhist practices are a big part of my daily life, i think there is something beautiful in the way they choose to live. Always mindful, always compassionate, always on the pursuit of happiness.

The Dalai Lama’s understanding of the factors that ultimately lead to happiness is based on a lifetime of methodically observing his own mind, exploring the nature of the human condition, and investigating these things within a framework first established by The Buddha over twenty-five centuries ago. And from this background, the Dalai Lama has come to some definite conclusions about which activities and thoughts are most worthwhile. He summarized his beliefs in the following words that can be used as a meditation..

Sometimes when I meet old friends, it reminds me how quickly time passes. And it makes me wonder if we’ve utilized our time properly or not. Proper utilization of time is so important. While we have this body, and especially this amazing human brain, I think every minute is something precious. Our day-to-day existence is very much alive with hope, although there is no guarantee of our future. There is no guarantee that tomorrow at this time we will be here. But still we are working for that purely on the basis of hope. So, we need to make the best use of our time. I believe that the proper utilization of time is this: if you can, serve other people, other sentient beings. If not, at least refrain from harming them. I think that is the whole basis of my philosophy. “So, let us reflect on what is truly of value in life, what gives meaning to our lives, and set our priorities on the basis of that. The purpose of our life needs to be positive. We weren’t born with the purpose of causing trouble, harming others. For our life to be of value, I think we must develop basic good human qualities—warmth, kindness, compassion. Then our life becomes meaningful and more peaceful—happier.”

  1. This post is amazing. “We have n amazing human brain” this is so true and we need to be conscious about it. Life is so simple yet we (the human being) make it so complicated with harm, hate, revenge and many other. Share your love, help others, be kind to one another. Great words.
